Magnolia Stellata

In this two part demonstration Julie will demonstrate how to approach this delicate white Magnolia Stellata, with its stunning star formation contrasting against a mass of tangled branches and buds.
Part 1
*You will learn how to paint a variegated background wash wet on wet
*Create the effect of silky textured buds
*Suggest the gnarled effect of the branches
Part 2
*How to paint white petals using shades of grey to softly suggest the subtle tones on a damp base
*The negative approach to painting the flower centre

You will need

Watercolours:
French Ultramarine or Ultramarine blue
Phthalo blue or Winsor blue(Green shade)
Cadmium yellow pale or Cobalt yellow
Permanent rose
Burnt sienna

Brushes:
Jackman's Size 8 round Kolinsky sable
W&N Cotman series 111 size 10 synthetic round brush

Finished painting size 27 x 20 cms
Bockingford 140lb NOT (a slight texture)
B pencil
Masking tape
Pebeo masking fluid plus old find brush or feather
