Decorative jars in The Souks, Marrakech in Pen and Watercolour

This is a two part demonstration of colourful and decorative ceramics in the Souks Marrakech
Part 1. Sketching out the scene in pencil followed by ink
Part 2. Applying the watercolour

Part 1.You will learn how to :-
* Approach the drawing in light pencil before applying the ink
* Observe the relationships of shapes
* Make a contour drawing of objects
* How to plot the design on the jars and plate , following the contour lines
* Apply loose linear pen work

Part 2
* Julie will demonstrate her approach to applying the washes of colour, using both wet on dry and wet on wet techniques
* How to mix the colours using a limited palette of 4
* Mix complementary colours to create less intense shades
i.e Blue and Orange, Purple and Yellow, Pink and Green

You will need

Watercolours:

Cadmium yellow deep
Permanent rose
Winsor blue ( green shade)
Ultramarine blue

Brushes:
Size 4,6,8 round
Permanent drawing pens 0.3 and 0.8
Size optional

Watercolour paper:
Bockingford 140LB NOT (cold pressed)
My Finished painting size approx 28 x 28 cms
I use loose sheets of 28x38cms(11x15ins)
or a pad

Tip

To make a colour less intense, add a touch of its complementary colour.
Complementary pairs are Blue and Orange, Purple and Yellow and Red and Green
