A popular subject, Julie will demonstrate how to interpret these March Hares in watercolour, against a loose background.
Watercolours:
Transparent yellow or pale cadmium yellow
Raw Sienna or Yellow Ochre
Permanent rose
Ultramarine blue
Burnt Sienna
Payne's grey
Brushes:
Size 4,6, 8 round
Watercolour paper:
28 x 38 cms 140lb NOT (a slight texture)
B pencil
Masking fluid i.e Pebeo drawing gum
Applicator i.e sharpened bamboo or fine feather
Small section of plastic i.e old store or bank card
Paper towel
Sketch out lightly and mask the whiskers and highlight in the eye.
The main colours used are Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, a mid purple mix of Ultramarine blue and Permanent rose and a stronger purple mix of Payne's grey mixed with Permanent rose.
Work wet on dry and strengthen by building up the colours wet on wet.
Paint in the direction of the growth of the fur and leave areas of white to suggest highlights and a sunny glow.
Connect the two hares with the landscape backdrop. Be as loose as you like!
